Re-examine. Re-assess. Re-visit the world within

An oft spoken word, but the gravity of its outcomes is not grasped for the most part. If done in a candid manner with a plan to address whatever the outcomes, it can be a powerful tool.

First order thinking, the auto pilot thinking, needs to take a back seat. One must delve deeper, question the assumptions, examine the self-limiting beliefs, probe the obvious.

That adage “We don’t learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience”, stands true. See everything from a 360 perspective, then the helicopter viewpoint. Stand on the other corner across from you. Argue for the other persons view and against your own. It can be a humbling process and one that has boundless rewards, if done right.

My recent article “The manager you think you are VS the one your team experiences” also provides insight into reality and why its important to look closer. With deep honesty, an open mind and a plan to address the outcomes, a lot can be achieved. Your personal growth depends on it.

Its amazing to be able to stop and revisit everything, think through your actions, your direction, your goals. Re-examine why you’re doing what you’re doing, what do you actually want out of all this, what would success look like etc. etc. Just stop and think rather than simply keep ushing a dead horse. Potentially.

Then there are smaller introspections that provide insight into how you react to things (triggers), how you operate, what you avoid, what makes you happy etc. etc.

The layers of introspection are many.

Don’t find out when its too late that whatever you were doing was all for nothing. The rules of the game keep changing. If we cannot reassess and change with them, we are dead in the water.

Our blind spots, our habits, our triggers, our perceptions, our biases and our view of the world dictates what we achieve, how we live. Our assumptions drive our decisions and our behaviors create the world we live in. All of these aspects are not things most of us are automatically aware of. This is where introspection comes in. A must exercise that is needed if one wants to gain balance and clarity in their life.

The person in the mirror that you see every morning may be your biggest obstacle to achieving whatever you desire. Stop defending who you are. Start challenging things you believe to be true. Question your assumptions.

Dare to discover what you could be getting astonishingly wrong.
