UAE Workers Celebrated on International Workers Day

His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, alongside officials from the Ministry, visited the labour accommodation facility managed by Workers Village Real Estate in Abu Dhabi, as part of the activities organised to celebrate International Workers’ Day, observed on 1 May of every year.

Workers Village Real Estate had won the first edition of the Emirates Labour Market Award in the Best Labour Accommodations category.

During his visit, Al Awar congratulated the workers on the International Workers’ Day, emphasising the Ministry’s commitment to supporting workers in the UAE, in addition to ensuring a healthy and safe work environment and adequate housing for them through legislation, initiatives, and closely monitoring compliance by private companies.

“Providing suitable housing for workers in accordance with relevant legislation is a top priority, as is incentivising companies to enhance their efforts in that regard,” he noted. “Our commitment to these objectives is reflected in our decision to create a category within the Emirates Labour Market Award for Best Labour Accommodations that takes into consideration sustainability criteria, workers’ wellbeing, and quality and availability of additional services in the facility, which reflects positively on the productivity of workers residing there, and on the UAE’s status, competitiveness, and global leadership in the labour market.”

The Minister toured the housing facilities and was briefed by the company’s executives about available services for the workers. Al Awar commended the conditions of the facility and its compliance with standards, regulations, and best practices.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation recently launched a new edition of the labour accommodation electronic system – the first national platform for registering workers’ housing. The platform is presented to companies across the UAE to raise awareness about accommodation standards and compliance with the requirements of the Ministry and its government partners, tasked with monitoring workers’ housing. The system aims to enhance quality of life and wellbeing for workers in the UAE.
