MoHRE and International Labour Organisation Explore Opportunities to Boost UAE Labour Market Efficiency

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) held a meeting with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to discuss opportunities for collaboration in advancing the UAE labour market, enhancing its efficiency on social protection programmes for workers and international labour standards, and keeping pace with global practices in labour inspection and occupational health and safety.

The meeting took place during a delegation visit from the ILO’s Regional Office for Arab States on 18 and 19 July 2024 to the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai, attended by Her Excellency Shayma Al Awadhi, Assistant Undersecretary for Communication and International Relations at MoHRE, and Peter Rademaker, the ILO Deputy Regional Director for Arab States, along with officials from both sides.

The discussions addressed the programme for the current edition of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD), focusing on the impact of climate change on labour migration from Asian countries to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and outlining the skills needed to ensure a Just Transition to a green economy, as well as highlighting the central role that the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation plays in supporting ILO initiatives and programmes in the Arab world.

On the sidelines of the meeting and in the presence of His Excellency Mohsin Al Nassi, MoHRE’s Assistant Undersecretary of Inspection Affairs, a graduation ceremony was held for 30 labour inspectors from MoHRE who completed the requirements of a training programme organised by the Ministry in collaboration with the ILO to develop inspectors’ skills, and capabilities to monitor forced labour, in line with best practices and global standards.
